This map displays the various geographies that make up the research boundary. These areas are concentrated in the city’s inner core neighborhoods and divided as either Inner Core North or Inner Core South. The areas are relevant geographies to the city from 1916-1938.

This map provides a spatial understanding of ethnic and racial geographies in Milwaukee from 1910-1930. Various data sources are utilized to build a portrait of Milwaukee’s neighborhood character in the first decades of the 20th century.
Historic Milwaukee - Neighborhood Geographies, 1930-1950
This map demonstrates a shift in the spatial structure of Milwaukee’s property markets. Previously, activity in the city was defined by socio-cultural influences emanating from ethnic and racial enclaves. By the 1930s and 1940s, Milwaukee’s inner core neighborhoods were delineated into neighborhood submarkets of commercial and residential uses.
Urban Renewal & Expressway Development - 1946-1969
Milwaukee’s urban renewal and expressway development period began in the late 1940s and continued into the late 1960s. Largely driven by Federal programs and generous cost-sharing models, inner core neighborhoods were extensively impacted by redevelopment. This map presents the various geographies of the period to demonstrate the spatial nature of the project areas and their interrelatedness.
